What is this service?
A VCI (volatile corrosion inhibitor) vaporises inside a closed space and forms a thin protective layer on metal surfaces. In vacuum barrier packing, equipment is enclosed in aluminium-laminated barrier foil, heat-sealed, the air is drawn out and a calculated amount of desiccant is placed inside.

Cleaning
Surfaces must be clean and dry; oil, dust and moisture are not sealed in.

Example scenario (illustrative): a CNC machining centre bound for a distant destination is cleaned, machined surfaces are protected with VCI, the machine is enclosed in aluminium barrier foil and vacuumed, desiccant and a humidity card are added, then it goes into a closed crate on skids.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between VCI and shrink-wrap?
Shrink-wrap is a shell against mechanical and external exposure and is not a moisture barrier on its own. VCI protects the metal surface chemically. For corrosion-risk cargo, VCI shrink film or barrier foil are considered together.
How is the desiccant quantity determined?
From pack volume, the barrier's water-vapour transmission, hygroscopic material inside (such as timber) and the expected duration.
How should the pack be opened on arrival?
Follow the opening instructions on the pack and check the humidity card; opening cold equipment straight away in a warm room can cause condensation.
